User Reviews about New Pair BLACK Headrest with 7" DVD USB SD VIDEO Monitors Wireless Game Car Package
The product ordered would not work as it would not fit the headrests we have in our car, and they are not adjustable. Also, this product must be hard wired (does not plug into the cigaraette lighter) and the instructions are scant. Be prepared to have the confidence to install yourself (including removing the back of your front seats to feed the wires through), or the money to pay someone. As it would not work for us, I cannot comment on the sound or picture quality -- Be aware of what you are getting
I bought this product last July to install in my truck. I was hesitant at first because it was not a name-brand manufacturer, but I took the chance anyway. The headrests were significantly cheaper than any others I had seen in various big-box stores or other websites.
I can't comment on ease of installation because I had Best Buy do the install for me (a man has to know his limits:)). What I can say definitively is that they have been worth the price I paid for them.
I have a 3 year old daughter who I take on trips regularly to different places in the Washington DC, Baltimore, and NYC areas. The DVD headrests have been a total blessing in terms of keeping her happy while I'm driving. On at least two occasions, they have been downright godsends. Two of my trips between NYC and Washington DC took over 8 hours each due to traffic, weather, accidents, and in one case, a fire. My daughter sat happily in her car seat watching her movies, which made the agony of sitting in a car for 8 hours that much more bearable.
I wholeheartedly recommend this product to others, particularly those with small children. -- Black Headrest DVD Monitors Wireless Game Car Package
I purchased these to replace the portable DVD players that strap to a headrest. I got tired of taking that system in and out of the car and the wires were a big pain in the butt. These headrest fit perfectly and almost match my old headrest in shape. The color was a perfect match. Installation was simple and only took about an hour. Granted, I found the instructions on how to take my center console apart on the internet and it made the installation go much quicker. As far as the manual with the DVD system, you might as well throw it out the window. As other reviews have said, it is very poorly translated Chinese. All you really need to do is tap into either your fuse box or a cigarette lighter. I used the cigarette lighter as my fuse box is harder to get to and I had less distance to run the wires this way. I used the metal frame of the car as a ground.
Once connected, the system really impressed me. The picture is very good and with the wireless headphone options and the built-in FM transmitter, there are several ways to listen to your movie. If you take the time, you can also set the system up so that, not only can you watch 2 different movies, but you can use one of the monitors as a slave and have both screens display the same movie. The games that come with the system are pretty cheesy and are knock-offs of 80's style arcade games. It's nice to have, but I don't ever see my five year old playing them. Another nice feature is that DVD's will start playing where they stopped if you turn the car off and back on (to eat or go to the bathroom). This was something that our old portable DVD player didn't do and was a constant source of frustration. There is also a zippered cover that hides the screen so that you are not advertising to everyone who walks by that you have headrest DVD players in your car.
On the negative side...The wireless headphones have pretty small ear cups. Not bad for a kid, but an adult (or a teenager) might not find them comfortable for very long. Also, most of the functions are controlled with the remote. While easy to figure out and use for a older child, it was a little frustrating for my five year old. Once she knew what button did what, she was good to go and could do most of the simple functions (power, volume, pause, play).
We have taken one five hour road trip since installing these and they worked perfectly. I couldn't be happier with the system and for the price, they can't be beat. I had a $75 gift card from Amazon so, it made my final price well under $200. If you are even thinking about these, you should just pull the trigger and buy them. You won't be disappointed. -- Can't beat the price or features
My only complaint is that the DVD doesn't continue playing where the movie was turned off. My son has seen the first 10 minutes of Cars probably 200 times now. Install was simple in my Saturn outlook. Hardest part was getting the back of the seat off. Good picture, good sound, headsets work fine, and u can set them up to play the same DVD if u use the AV outputs. Overall excellent for the price. -- Overall very good
I purchased this through Amazon, but the sub-supplier handled complaints and return of the product. I am glad that I had Amazon backing up this purchase.
After reading several other reviews on this product, I was prepared for some of the issues. The biggest issue is the Chinese to English translation in the operations manual (not the installation). You need to sit down with a cup of coffee and read these directions first with the product in front of you. There is a Chinese website that is more useful than the instruction manual, or the supplier. If you have a 12 VDC power supply, it is worth it to sit down and figure out all the controls and make sure everything functions before you install these.
The adapter rods are of course too small in diameter for today's American Made vehicles. So I twice wrapped them top to bottom with black electrical tape. That seemed to make them snug enough to fit.
Hooking up the wiring was relatively easy. My problem came after I had installed them and after playing for 5 minutes, one of the LCD screens went totally blank. The supplier company required me to package everything back up and Fedex picked them up the next day. One week later, my returned package arrived at their business in New York. After a few phone calls, they then shipped a new set which arrived in three days. I tested the new headsets for an hour before installing them. I didn't want to have that problem again.
The game CD have nothing on them. they are blank. So I guess you have to go to their website, download the games compresed to your computer, open the games, then transfer them to the CD.
Make sure your headsets work. If you have 2 kids in the car and they are watching different DVDs, the sound is maddening. Remember the speakers are right behind your head times 2.
So far I am pleased with the equipment. I had three previous vehicles that came from the factory with entertainment systems and we liked them all. But with my latest car purchase, I didn't want to spend $1200 more for factory installed DVD systems, so I thought this was a good investment. If in the future these DVD players break, I can just re-install original headrest. At least for now the grandkids are occupied on long trips.
I rated this a '3' because the operating instructions are difficult to understand, and that I had to wait two more weeks for a good set to arrive. The supplier did handle the problem without question..they just wanted to confirm there was something wrong with them. -- 7" DVD HeadRest
